My Personal Mission Statement

I believe that, by virtue of applied experience and learned wisdom, each new stage in life should and ought to be my best yet.  I intend to make my next third the best third of my life.
I believe that life is the supreme gift of God, and so I feel obliged to live my life fully and well.
I believe that the essence of life is growth.  However, not all life nor all growth is good.  Good things are those which tend toward increased life.
I believe that there are fundamental and immutable principles of good living.  I believe these include truth, honesty, integrity, mindfulness, gratitude, compassion, service, knowledge, intelligence, wisdom, and good old-fashioned hard work.  Lack of these diminishes a person’s life, whereas their abundance enriches.
I believe that life well-lived exudes love and appreciation and a host of other like qualities, and that to live well and fully is to nurture and internalize these qualities.
My mission in life is to live as well as I am able, each minute, every day, all my years.
I am...Lyle.  What that means is up to me to discover and determine.  I am privileged to be a husband, a father, and a grandfather, a son, a brother, a neighbor and friend, a citizen and soldier of what I truly believe in.  Always I am a student, and hopefully a good learner and doer.
These things I believe.  Now...what will I do?
